Bupa Well+ Reviewed: Is It Worth It?

Updated August 2026

Bupa Well+ is a digital health subscription, not health insurance, aimed at people who want faster GP access without the cost of a full policy. We've compared what Bronze and Silver actually offer, what they cost, and whether it's a genuine alternative to health insurance or something else entirely.

The Basics

What Is Bupa Well+?

A subscription for faster access to a GP, not a replacement for full medical cover.

Fast GP Access

Remote appointments usually within 24 hours, sometimes the same day.

+

Physio & Mental Health

Included with Silver, remote physiotherapy and counselling sessions.

£

Genuinely Affordable

From £15 a month, considerably less than most private medical insurance.

!

Not Insurance

No cover for surgery, scans, specialist treatment or hospital stays.

Compared

Bronze vs Silver

Two tiers, genuinely different jobs.

Bupa Well+ Bronze

From £15/month, or £180/year
  • Remote GP appointments (15 minutes)
  • Private prescriptions
  • Anytime HealthLine
  • +£5/month for face-to-face appointments at Bupa clinics
The limitation on remote-only appointments (unless you pay more) genuinely damages how useful this is for anyone who feels they need to see a GP in person for an effective discussion.

Bupa Well+ Silver

From £20/month, individual
  • GP appointments for you, your partner and children (up to 23)
  • Up to 6 remote physiotherapy sessions a year
  • Up to 6 remote counselling + 8 behaviour therapy sessions a year
  • On-demand fitness classes via the Bupa Blua app
A genuinely well-rounded package for the price, particularly for families wanting everyday healthcare support rather than cover for serious illness.

The gap that actually matters

Well+ genuinely helps with the everyday stuff, a quick GP appointment, a physio session. But the moment something serious happens, a cancer diagnosis, a condition needing surgery, you're back on the NHS waiting list exactly like everyone else. That's the one gap worth taking seriously before you decide a subscription is enough.

The Honest Answer

Is Bupa Well+ Right For You?

If you're mainly worried about long waits to see a GP, and don't mind how things are handled if you're actually diagnosed with something serious, Well+ genuinely does that one job well, and affordably.

But for most people, that second part is the real risk. Well+ is genuinely good at the small stuff, and genuinely absent for the big stuff, exactly when you'd want cover most. Health insurance doesn't have to be as expensive as people assume either, options like a higher excess, a restricted hospital list, or an NHS cash-back option can bring the cost down meaningfully without gutting the cover that actually matters. It's worth comparing what full cover would actually cost you before settling for a subscription that only covers half the picture.

FAQs

Bupa Well+ FAQs

Is Bupa Well+ the same as health insurance?

No. Bupa Well+ is a digital health subscription giving faster access to a GP and, with Silver, physiotherapy and mental health support. It doesn't cover specialist treatment, scans, surgery or hospital stays the way private health insurance does. It's a genuinely different thing to health insurance, not a cheaper version of it.

How much does Bupa Well+ cost?

Bronze starts from £15 a month for remote-only GP appointments, or £20 a month including face-to-face appointments at Bupa clinics. Silver starts from £20 a month for a single adult, rising to £40 for two adults, £30 for a parent with children, or £50 for a full family, all payable monthly or as a lower annual price.

Does Bupa Well+ cover mental health support?

Only on the Silver tier. It includes up to 6 remote counselling sessions and up to 8 remote behaviour therapy appointments each year, delivered through the Bupa Blua app. Bronze doesn't include any mental health provision at all, it's focused purely on GP access and prescriptions, so it's worth specifically checking you've picked Silver if mental health support is something you're actually looking for.

What happens if I get seriously ill on Bupa Well+?

You'd be referred back to the NHS, the same as if you had no cover at all. Well+ doesn't include specialist consultations, diagnostic scans, surgery or cancer treatment, it's built around everyday access to a GP and, on Silver, physiotherapy and mental health support. If serious illness is the risk you actually want to protect against, full health insurance is genuinely the product built for that, not a GP subscription.
